TIFF International Symposium on Film Education 2026:
Developing Educators and Building Support for Film Education

As revisions to Japan’s national curriculum guidelines toward 2030 move forward, schools are placing greater emphasis than ever on inquiry-based learning and collaboration with local communities.

Through both watching and making films, film education enables children to raise questions, encounter diverse perspectives, and create collaboratively with others. Its potential is once again drawing attention as one form of practice that can support this kind of learning.

Moving beyond one-off film education initiatives toward a sustainable framework that connects schools, communities, and cinema.

Through practices in France and Japan, this symposium will explore two key elements in making this possible: “building supportive environments” and “developing the people who will carry film education forward.”
